Masjid Omar Al Mukhtar

There was an article written up about the great food pantry at this place. The article said that they had fresh fruits and vegetables and fresh meat , in addition on Tuesdays there would be fresh cooked meals in the fridge to take. Went down there with an elderly friend to help her get some food. Article said the place was open 24/7. Well we got down there one afternoon about 3:00, the building was locked with a couple of man sitting outside with nothing to do. Asked if they had fresh foods vegetables or meat or cooked meals, their answer was no, they said all they had were canned goods, bags of rice. spaghetti noodles, no sauce, and boxes of macaroni. This is pretty sad seeing this was only about the third week since they first opened, seems pretty evident that their Muslim congregation, didn't bother to follow through after they got all that publicity. This was promoted as having refrigerated meals, fresh meats add fresh fruits and vegetables. They had none of these items, and thinking maybe they were just out for a day or two I asked when they would be getting restocked. And they said probably not. Don't waste your time, not a single thing published in the article promoting this was accurate.

This is a small masjid downtown. Close to Riverwalk. The ablution area seems clean. I went there for Friday prayers the prayer area was nice and the carpet was vacuumed. Not sure if they have a prayer area for the ladies. The Friday sermon was in English. I think they only have one Friday prayer. Everyone seems to be friendly. They have a small parking place in front of the masjid entrance, but definitely not enough for the Friday congregation. We did find a parking place on the main street. You can find Quran versus on the walls.

Nice little masjid that has all necessary facilities for prayer for both men and women

Imam of this mosque, Imam Mohammad is a very kind and nice person. The brothers are nice too.
